Lakeland Cycle Club sets sights on exciting summer

-

THE Lakeland Cycle Club has named a list of exciting events that it has planned for the new year.

Their Club Racing League got underway yesterday (Wednesday), kicking off with a time trial beginning at the Five Points in Arney.

In addition, there will also be the introduction of a ‘B League’ which has been set up by the club for anyone who is interested in getting involved in bike racing.

They have encouraged people with zero knowledge of the sport to people who are eager to get back involved in taking part to provide an enjoyable racing experience.

Alongside the racing leagues, they have set the wheels in motion for two

Open Races, the Lakeland GP Race and The Lady of The Lake Race to happen in 2024 while veteran racers of the club have also joined the Cavan Interclub racing league this time around.

Another new event for this year will see the launch of a 2-Up Team Time Trial Category at Time Trial races.

Usually, a time trial is done by a single rider, but the club hope a team trial will provide a fresh spin for racers.

The Lakeland Cycle Club has appealed for any interested parties across the county to get involved in the 2024 calendar year.

In February, the club held their Reliability Trial, a non-competitive road cycling event.

It was a huge success, with around 80 men and women from different cycling clubs, travelling to the Bawnacre Centre Irvinestown, which start/finish point and host venue for the event.

The start section of the event between Irvinestown and Lisnarick was neutralised, and riders were kept at a limited speed by the LCC pace car so that the bunch could be led out by LCC’S Boys Under 8, National Cyclo-cross Champion, James Kavanagh.
