Kinawley make winning start as league kicks off

KINAWLEY made a winning start in the first round of fixtures in Division One of the Senior Ladies Football season while Belcoo and Tempo played out a thrilling draw at Macnean Park at the weekend.

Tempo scored five goals away from home with a final scoreline of 1-14 to 5-02 in Belcoo.

Belcoo began brightly and registered the opening two points from Sam Martin and Elaine Maguire however 10 minutes in Tempo hit two goals in a minute to lead.

A third goal followed on 14 minutes thrusting the visitors into a 3-01 to 0-03 lead.

Belcoo would steady themselves after the blow of three quick goals and they kept Tempo scoreless during the remainder of the half.

By the interval, the home side were level as they registered four points in a row from Sinead Barrett (2), Elaine Maguire and Eve Barrett before Abbie Mcgovern was fouled for a penalty on the stroke of half-time.

Elaine Maguire tucked the ball into the net to leave the game tied at the break.

Blaithin Bogue, who had already 2-01 to her name, won the throw-up to commence the second period, she drove in for another goal and Tempo restored a three-point cushion.

Belcoo again battled back with an immediate response, working the ball downfield for Eimear Higgins to slot over, Scarlett O’connor followed suit moments later to cut the deficit to the minimum.

Bogue would knock over a free and by the 45th minute the sides were level again, O’connor and Maguire with points for Belcoo. Blaithin Bogue scored a fourth goal on 48 minutes.

Belcoo managed to claw themselves back level by the final whistle.

Two Elaine Maguire points either side of an Abbie Mcgovern point left the teams with a share of the spoils.

Belcoo host League

Champions Kinawley this weekend while Tempo host Newtownbut­ler.

Meanwhile, Kinawley netted six times in a 6-16 to 1-09 win over Aghadrumse­e with Gemma Mccaffrey helping herself to 3-03.

Lisa Maguire (1-02), Danielle Maguire (1-01) and Niamh Mcmanus (1-02) bagged the game’s other goals with points also coming from Joanne Doonan (0-03), Roisin

O’reilly, Chloe Mcmanus, Lauren Murphy and Megan Murphy.

Aoife Mccabe, Niamh Lambe and Laura Grew grabbed most Aghadrumse­e scores.

Ladies league

Division Two

In Division Two, Lisnaskea defeated Brookeboro­ugh 5-13 to 1-07 as an even first half eventually led to Lisnaskea running away with the game.

Caroline Kerins, Louise Mckenna, Ella O’donnell and Jessica Connolly led the scoring for the Emmets.

Devenish saw off Belnaleck 1-09 to 1-06 while Ederney racked up a huge 8-20 3-09 win over Enniskille­n Gaels elsewhere in Division Two.

Division Three

Division Three will also get underway this weekend as Irvinestow­n play Knockninny, Erne Gaels face Belleek and Maguiresbr­idge play Derrygonne­lly.
