Dump pot

-

I see a lot of anglers ship out a big dump pot full of bait and drop it in at the start. This is never a good idea as you could already have a large shoal there. If you do, you’ve just made it easier for them to avoid your hookbait because they have a much greater choice about what they should eat. The only time I will turn to using a big pot is if I have tried to build up my swim with a small pole pot but there are still no fish biting. Piling in a dump pot of bait can draw fish from other areas and, once they have arrived, it is back to little-and-often. This type of pot is also used to feed the margins because fish won’t be sat there from the off and I want to draw them in.
