I WANT A LIGHT BOX

- MARK GRACE, LUTTERWORTH, LEICESTERSHIRE

After having suffered a slipped disc, from which I have now fully recovered, I was advised to avoid lifting my current seatbox in and out of the car. Get a lighter one, recommended the osteopath. But it appears not to be as easy as it should be. I am astonished that I am unable to find a light seatbox in an age when there's a wholesale move towards superlight materials such as carbonfibre and Kevlar, which are already used in the tackle industry. My current seatbox is loaded with the proverbial kitchen sink, but that's how I like it. This way, I know that I'll have everything with me when I venture out, sometimes at the last minute, without having to remember what is or isn't already stowed in the box. Fishing is important to me, but I don't want to have to plan any session as if it was some assault on Mount Everest! Of course, I could relieve the contents somewhat and I already have done, but the damned thing still weighs a ton, although I can move it using my little trolley. If modern aircraft wings can withstand the stresses of incredible turbulence, it can't be beyond the whit of the angling industry to get busy with the lightweight stuff and produce a box that's as light as the proverbial feather, together with a footplate. I'm sure we'd have to pay through the nose for such a creation but I'm sure there'd be a market for such high-tech kit. After all, anglers pay thousands of pounds for a pole, so why not a few hundred for a box? So come on, boys, get your fingers out and make me a box worthy of 2017 technology.
