Improve Your Coarse Fishing (UK)

Q I know it’s still a while until the rivers open, but how long before June 16th do you think I should start my prebaiting campaign? And how often should I bait up? Richard Hobley, via email

JAKE WILDBORE: I would be starting now, but little and often. You don’t need to be filling it in, just a few handfuls every three days is perfect. It can be hard work, but being able to prep the areas for a long time will almost train the carp to feeding at your chosen spots.

Using particles is a cheaper way of doing it, but you will most likely attract the unwanted attention of nuisance species too. I would use ramped up baits, pumped full of liquid and coated in powder. Like I said before, you don’t need to use a lot. Just a handful or two every three days will be enough. I take my Krill boilies and give them a glaze of the Pure Krill Liquid. Once that is done, I then give them a sprinkling of Krill Powder. All the liquid and powder will absorb and coat on to the bait. Once it enters the water, it will slowly release all that attraction into the river. Any carp within a mile will smell that!
