There are some tactics where you can get bites from the very first cast but the waggler isn’t one of them. Getting the fish to compete shallow for the bait can take time so it is best to use another tactic for the first part of the session. I like to fish a feeder beyond my waggler line but I make sure my mainline is running through where I will be fishing later. I will keep pinging pellets over my intended waggler zone and, when I start getting indications on the feeder rod tip but not proper bites, it is a great sign that the fish are dashing around and bumping into my mainline. At this point it is time to pick up the waggler rod and start bagging up!
