Bayonets

-

These are small, simple and discreet pins that really come into play when you’re using hard baits on a hair rig. The Bayonet features a small eyed end, enabling it to be hair-rigged close to the back of the hook. When the Bayonet is pushed into the chosen bait, it sits right at the back of the hook securely in place, again leaving the hook perfectly free to effectively hook fish. Bayonets are best suited to baits such as boilies, dumbells and wafters. Most ready-made hookbaits like these are tough enough to enable the spike to be pushed inside, where it will hold securely in place. They’re incredibly easy to use, and baiting up with these can be done quickly. Often, when using a bayonet, I’ll try and use a wafter bait that has enough buoyancy to counteract the little bit of extra weight from the Bayonet itself.
