COLD COMFORT

I used to be one of those anglers that pretty much hibernated during the winter months but this time round I decided to give it a go with a few sessions. I must admit that I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised with what I achieved during the cold snap. During the summer months it is all carp and F1s at my favourite two fisheries but despite getting lots of bites, I only caught a handful of both species all winter. Instead, I caught plenty of roach, perch, skimmers and even an odd tench! These fish obviously never get a look in during the warm months but it is great that fisheries have now adopted a more diverse stocking policy. It makes things more interesting and drastically increases your chances of a few bites, no matter how cold it gets. I never thought I would say this, but if this trend continues then winter may soon be my favourite time of year to fish!
