THIS MONTH: PERFECT BAIT PREPARATION
THE decisions you make while actually fishing will clearly dictate how many fish you catch, but what happens before you wet a line is every bit as important. Bait preparation is often overlooked but mixing your groundbait in the correct manner is an absolute must. Mix it too dry and you’ll struggle to mould it into a ball or round a feeder. Make it too wet and you’ll end up with a sloppy mess that is useless in most scenarios. This month I show you how to whip your groundbait into the ideal consistency.
PELLETS are the number one bait on commercials. They can catch a wide range of species and come in various sizes. The most versatile are 2mm pellets as they can be used on the pole or feeder. This month I show you how to dampen them correctly so they mould round the Method with ease.
1Grab the essential ingredients for the process. Take a bag of 2mm Sonubaits Fin Perfect pellets and a Preston Innovations Pellet Wetter.
2Take the mesh bag from the Pellet Wetter and tip half a bag of pellets into it. This is enough for a full day’s sport on the Method, even when you are catching a fish every chuck. Seal the bag and the rest can be used at a later date.
3Fill the bait tub that comes with the Pellet Wetter with water. It is now time to zip up the mesh bag and dip it in the tub. Leave it in the water for 30 seconds. This amount of time is ideal – any shorter and they won’t be exposed to the water for long enough, any longer and you could end up with a mush that will make them useless.
4After 30 seconds, remove the mesh bag from the water and leave it to stand in the open for around 10 minutes. This will enable all the pellets to absorb the water and soften in the process.
5Go back to your pellets after the wait and they will be ready for use. They can now be moulded around a Method with ease. They can also be squeezed into small balls to be fed on the pole. Pellet preparation is a very simple process and can be successfully completed in no time at all if you follow my simple system.
