OBJECT OF DESIRE DAIWA 19 TDM REELS RRP: £ 175

WE ALWAYS get excited when word of a new Daiwa reel reaches us. After all, the Scotland- based company has provided anglers of all disciplines with some of the best reels on the market over the years. And the 19 TDM looks set to be another winner.

The price puts the TDM around the middle of Daiwa’s reel ranges, sitting between the famed TDRs and the Legalis and Ninja Match & Feeder reels.

Even though the TDMs are a fraction of the cost of Daiwa’s top- end models, they still boast many of the features and high specifications you’d find on the more expensive reels.

The reel is available in 2508, 3012 and 4012 body sizes – the two smaller versions in single or double- handle options – so, whether you want a reel for float or feeder tactics, there is a size to suit. They sport a precision QD ( quick drag) system which is a must- have for commercial carp fisheries when fishing tactics such as the Method feeder, as it offers an instant buffer against being snapped off or, worse still, having your rod dragged in.

There’s also an HIP ( high impact) line clip and inside the lightweight aluminium body the reel benefits from technology such as a DS4 rotor and the faultless Digigear II gearing that provides a slow, quiet oscillation for impeccable line lay.

The EVA handle, like that found on the top- end TDR and TDX reels, provides a strong grip and there’s no risk of it becoming slippery when wet.

And, as an added bonus, the reel comes with a spare spool.
