UK set to experience hottest day of the year
The country is set to experience its hottest day of the year so far this weekend, with temperatures forecast to be higher than those in Mallorca and Ibiza.
Parts of the South East including London could have highs of 27°C today and tomorrow – hotter than Spain’s Balearic Islands. Mallorca is forecast to hit 24°C today and 23°C tomorrow, just ahead of 22°C in Ibiza. Most of the UK will enjoy fine weather and several places could reach the mid-20s further north and in Wales.
The Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said there would be “lengthy spells of spring sunshine”.
However, more unsettled conditions are likely further north, with a few heavy afternoon showers or thunderstorms predicted to develop across northern England and southern Scotland.
Pollen levels, which increase as the temperature rises, will span lowto-medium levels over the weekend. Tomorrow many places will start fine and warm, but are likely to become cloudier from the west or south-west during the day. Scattered showers, which could be accompanied by thunder, are expected. Mr Deakin said: “There’s still a bit of uncertainty about the timings of those showers developing, but with more clouds in the west it won’t be as warm, whereas parts of the east, if the cloud doesn’t get in, could be warmer still – 25°C, maybe 26°C in one or two locations.”
Yellow weather warnings from the Met Office for tomorrow between 12pm and 10pm cover the North West of England, most of Wales, much of central England and the South West. Another yellow warning for thunderstorms is also in place for Northern Ireland from 11am until 7pm. The Met Office spokesman Stephen
Dixon said: “There is the potential for travel disruption and rainfall events as part of the thundery systems. Some intense downpours
