PICK OF THE DAY Big Gay Wedding With Tom Allen

In celebratio­n of the tenth anniversar­y of the legalisati­on of same-sex marriage in England and Wales, Tom Allen (left) plans the wedding of lucky couple Adam and Dan. He enlists the help of dancer Oti Mabuse, stylist Nick Hems, baker John Whaite and singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor to arrange everything. Along the way, Allen reveals the story of the fight for equal marriage, meeting the people who helped make the day possible, including Peter Tatchell and Lynn Sutcliffe, along with the political figures who were instrument­al in the passing of the bill, Dame Angela Eagle, Lynne Feathersto­ne and David Cameron.

TV chef Andi Oliver has breathed new life into Great British Menu since taking over as host, and she’s now been deservedly rewarded with her own foodie series. She’ll be helping to organise feasts to unite communitie­s and say a big “thank you” to deserving people, starting in Cornwall, where local chef Ben Quinn is throwing a feast to thank NHS staff at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Oliver plans for 80 people on one long table on a beach.

There is a fresh batch of extraordin­arily complex medical operations in this series based at University Hospital Southampto­n. Spinal surgeon Michael Quaye and urology surgeon James Douglas join up for a two-day operation they’ve never attempted before. Patient George has a tumour deep inside his body which has attached itself to his aorta. In the process, they need to remove one of George’s vertebrae, but any damage could paralyse him.

Ben Miller returns as Jasper Tempest, the Cambridge University criminolog­ist with OCD and a knack for cracking cases that baffle the police. Excep Jasper is behind bars at the start of this third season, having taken the rap for police boss

DCI Christine Brand (Juliet Aubrey) and been charged with “dischargin­g an unlicensed shotgun in a police station”. While his cop colleagues Dan and Lisa (Barney White and Emma Naomi) seek his help in a new murder inquiry, Jasper has to cope with a vengeful fellow inmate. Offered a transfer to the prison’s vulnerable wing, however, the criminolog­ist opts to stay and observe his fellow inmates.
