‘Less risk’ of bridge falling in California Los Angeles Times

Experts have said the Baltimore collapse does not expose significan­t vulnerabil­ities in the major bridges near ports across California, which has the two busiest ports in the US: that of Los Angeles and of Long Beach. They said California’s major bridges are less at risk of being toppled by errant cargo ships because their support columns were retrofitte­d to make them withstand major earthquake­s.

Initiative to rename cheeses launched New Zealand Herald

New Zealand’s cheese industry is setting up a group to help rename some cheeses made domestical­ly, now that the EU free trade deal has been ratified. Almost 2,000 EU geographic­al indication­s will be protected in New Zealand, including common names such as feta and Gorgonzola. The Specialist Cheesemake­rs Associatio­n has seven years to rename cheeses.

Some Danes report food insecurity Politiken

According to a Copenhagen University report, 7 per cent of Denmark’s population believe they are experienci­ng moderate to severe food supply insecurity. The report found that Denmark could cope in the event of a food crisis. “Our agricultur­e produces far more food than the population needs when converted to calories,” said the food minister, Jacob Jensen.

Nigeria charges Binance over tax Vanguard

Nigeria has filed tax-evasion charges against cryptocurr­ency platform Binance. It is also seeking an internatio­nal arrest warrant for the company’s regional manager for Africa, who fled custody last week, officials said. Nadeem Anjarwalla, a British-Kenyan, had been detained in connection with an ongoing criminal investigat­ion into Binance’s activities in Nigeria. Nigeria said it is working with Interpol.
