You Ask: Marc Elliott (Holby’s Isaac)
MARC ELLIOTT Holby’s Isaac Mayfield ...faces your questions!
As nasty Isaac bows out of Holby in a dramatic climax to his story with Dom, former Eastender Marc bids farewell by answering all of your questions… “Do you think you’d make a good doctor in real life?” Absolutely not! I’m quite squeamish, and we have a running joke on Holby about me doing surgery scenes – I absolutely hate them. I’m really rubbish at holding all the instruments in the correct way, and always asking for a close-up of my face so that you can’t see what my awful hands are doing! My sister is a vet, and I really don’t know how she does it. “Which Holby character would you trust most to be in charge of your treatment if you were poorly?” Sacha Levy, played by
Bob Barrett – who is an absolute dreamboat and I adore him! Sacha’s got a glorious bedside manner, he’s good at his job and he has a lovely soft energy. “Who among the cast makes you laugh the most?” Without a doubt the answer to that question is Guy Henry, who plays Hanssen. It’s got to the stage where we can’t do a scene together without wetting ourselves with laughter.
He is naturally a very funny man, but also naughty and cheeky. “Isaac has been so cruel to Dom, but how do you and David Ames get on in real life?” Aw, I love David. We get on very well, and it’s been an interesting journey story-wise. He’s been doing a bang-up job, which is incredibly difficult when this plot demands so much nuance and emotion – but David has that in bucketloads. I’ve really enjoyed my time working with him. “Do you miss your long hair, and are there any plans to grow it back?” I don’t miss it, no! It’s so much easier just to get up in the mornings with this new barnet. I might grow it a little longer again just for a change, but I don’t think it’s ever going back to the Neanderthal
“Which character would you trust as a doctor?”
length from when I played Syed in
Eastenders. And of course I’m going grey, so I don’t know whether thick, white curls would be a good look! “If you could do any other job for just one day, what would you fancy doing?” I’d like to be a forensic pathologist. It’s the idea of being one of those Csi-style people, and going to a crime scene and getting out the Luminol to find traces of blood! But as I said, I’m pretty squeamish – so it would literally have to be for one day. “Where is your dream holiday destination?” Somewhere that’s hot, beachy and has the sea – so perhaps Bali, Mauritius or the Maldives. Who knows, I might need to escape to a deserted island after my final Holby episode, in case people want to kill Isaac! I’ll ask the BBC to pay for it, and tell them to send me to the Maldives for my protection! “Now that the Masoods have left Eastenders, what are the chances of you all getting together for a big family reunion?” Well certainly Meryl [Fernandes, who played Afia], Himesh [Patel, aka Tamwar] and I have been saying that we want to do it, so watch this space. I’m sure there will soon be a picture on Nina Wadia’s [Zainab] Twitter of all of us sitting down and having dinner somewhere. “If you won the lottery, what would you spend the cash on?” This is a little bit boring, but I’d pay off the mortgages of anyone in my family and close circle of friends, and set up a trust fund for my niece and nephew so they could go off to university. Then I’d buy a yacht and hire a captain to run it while we take cruises around the Mediterranean! “Is it true that you’re a twin? What is the best thing about it?” I am, and interestingly my twin sister Sophie has had twins as well. It’s been really great watching them grow up together, as they’re also a boy and a girl – and they had their own language for the first two years, which I’m sure Sophie and I must have had as well. Seeing their bond has reminded me of the one I have with my sister, and it’s brought her and I a bit closer and made us realise how special it is.
“How do you get on with David Ames, aka Dominic?”
