KAYVAN NOVAK IS A MAN OF MANY FACES ONCE AGAIN IN A NEW SPOOF CURRENT AFFAIRS SHOW…
As we try to remain vigilant of fake news, don’t be fooled by this new comedy series. Kayvan Novak will be using his talent for voices (and a very skilled make-up team) to play a variety of newscasters and investigators aiming to reveal what makes our country tick.
“It looks and feels like an American news programme in the style of Fox News,” Kayvan tells Inside TV. “I think I was watching a clip of [political pundit] Bill O’reilly from about three years ago. I thought, ‘These guys are like pranksters, almost’ – they get people on their show, then they wind them up, then they go, ‘Well, that’s all we’ve got time for’. That was the initial idea – that I would love to play a character like that.”
This week’s opener searches for ‘Britain’s most hated cyclist’, and security correspondent Jon Donovan goes on terrorwatch inside a shopping mall – to the bemusement of the people he encounters there.
“My pranks have never been mean-spirited,”
Kayvan assures us. “They are never looking to create an aggressive reaction, it’s more of a tolerance test for the other person. It’s exploring what we’re really like in those situations, and I think what it actually uncovers is quite a lot of sweetness.”
While the series is set up to imitate a current affairs show, Kayvan is quick to point out that he’s more interested in comedy than satire.
“It could be deemed satire,” he admits. “But it’s really Kayvan Novak running around in prosthetic make-up, doing what he’s done since he was five and pretending to be other people!”
