Frightened Pollard fights back!

BUT IS MORE VIOLENCE THE ANSWER?

- Kate White

Terrified Pollard arms himself with a cricket bat in order to take on attackers Josh and Jamie this week, as tension grows in the village.

Since the tearaway teens robbed David’s shop and attacked Pollard, the elderly man has been on the edge and determined the boys should pay. But with the one person who can testify against the lads – Dan – intimidated into silence, Josh and Jamie are free to keep up their reign of terror. As the situation escalates, is someone going to be seriously hurt?

“Forget baseball bats, these wicked boys come back with knives!” warns our Dales spy. “The police are investigating, but that doesn’t stop Josh and Jamie. They think they can intimidate people and run riot because no one will dare stop them. They’ll do whatever it takes to keep anyone who could send them down in line.”

While Pollard and David want the law to throw the book at the boys, any case relies on Dan’s testimony. However, Josh and Jamie have started a campaign of terror against the mortified fella. They know that Dan didn’t step in to stop them during the attack, and that his weakness can be exploited. That’s why they target his family – especially daughter Amelia – in a bid to buy his silence.

No matter what Dan did or didn’t do in the moment of Pollard’s attack, his main concern is the safety of others. He’s terrified that Amelia or Kerry may pay the price as Josh and Jamie round on them, and that leads Dan to drop his statement. It’s a big decision, but Dan thinks he’s doing the right thing for his family – no matter how that affects his reputation and relationships in Emmerdale.

“Can you imagine how incandescent with rage Pollard is when he hears this?” sighs our sneak. “If it’s not bad enough that Dan stood by and watched those criminals attack Pollard, now he’s shirking his responsibility to tell the court! It’s outrageous. As far as Pollard and David are concerned, Dan is a total coward who should be ashamed of himself.”

After Dan withdraws his statement, jubilant Josh and Jamie return to the village to gloat to Pollard. To their

surprise, however, he’s ready for them in the shop, armed with a cricket bat. As they hurl abuse, Pollard reveals the bat and threatens to deliver his own form of justice. But the truth is that he’s paranoid and broken. Will Pollard’s fear drive him to do something stupid?
