“I begged to die in Holby,” laughs the star, whose alter ego Dr Victoria Merrick was stabbed to death. “I wanted to have a grisly death, and I remember saying to the show’s producers,

‘Please make it gruesome! Please can I die?’.

“Then it was only a year later that I thought,

‘Oh, I can’t go back now!’ You can’t return from the dead, so hopefully

I won’t meet a horrible end

[in Eastenders] any time soon.”
