THIS PERIOD DRAMA served up several shocking scenes of violence in its opening episode, but it definitely got the message across – this is no cosy corset-fest. Upon their arrival in the British colony of Jamestown in 1619, the first women of the settlement realise that this is a new country where the rules are still being figured out. Telling the story through the eyes of three women gives a fresh perspective on an otherwise maledominated point in history, and we’re hooked already – smart, shrewd, ambitious Jocelyn is one of our favourite characters on TV right now.
