DARA AND ED’S ROAD TO MANDALAY | BBC2 9PM

Dara and Ed begin the final leg of their journey in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar. As luck (or just good planning) would have it, they’ve arrived in the middle of a Buddhist light festival and they get to see the Schwedagon Pagoda festooned with thousands of candles.

After speaking to locals about voting in the country’s first democratic elections, it’s onwards to Mandalay via train – that is, assuming they can make any sense of the timetable.
