Johnny confronts his health fears
WILL HE GET THE ANSWERS HE NEEDS FROM THE DOCTOR?
Ailing Johnny Connor finally confronts his health problems this week, by booking an appointment with the doctor. But what’s wrong with him?
The Underworld boss has been struggling for weeks with some worrying symptoms, and even fell over on the cobbles when his legs gave way. He’s tried to brush his concerns under the carpet, but after his son Aidan asks Johnny to help carry some boxes from a van into the factory, Kate spots her father’s discomfort.
She’s been concerned about what’s going on with Johnny for a while, especially as he bit her head off for trying to help him. She’s sick of tiptoeing around him, and demands that they go to the medical centre to get answers. But what the doctor says scares the soonto-be married fella witless…
HEALTH CHECK
“Johnny should have gone to the doctor a long time ago,” says our Weatherfield insider. “He’s avoided it because he’s hoped the symptoms will just go away. He’s finally found happiness with Jenny, he’s got a great business and now has a relationship with all three of his children. It seems terribly cruel for life to deal him a health curve ball.”
It’s a tense time for Johnny as he describes the symptoms he’s experienced and the doctor considers her diagnosis. Eventually she informs her patient that he’ll need to have tests to see if he has multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. Both conditions would have a lifechanging impact, and given that Johnny has been excited about a future with bride-tobe Jenny, he’s devastated.
ALL CHANGE
“Such a diagnosis could turn their lives upside down,” sighs our snoop. “Johnny is worried that Jenny won’t want to stay with him if it’s something as serious as Parkinson’s or MS. He would never want to be a burden to her, and he’s scared that everything they’ve been planning could be wrecked. Of course, Johnny is panicking and looking at the worst-case scenario. The sooner these results come back, the better.”
As they leave the surgery, Johnny tells Kate that no one else must know about what’s happening – he won’t let Aidan and Jenny worry until there’s something to be concerned about. But given how serious it could be, should Johnny confide in his loved ones right away?
