You Ask… Andrew Morley (Jack)
ANDREW MORLEY Neighbours’ Father Jack ...faces your questions!
Jack shocked the Erinsborough locals when he was revealed to be a priest! And 27-year-old Andrew is praying that Inside Soap readers will go easy on him with their questioning…
“Do you think Jack made the right decision to stick with the Church, or should he be with Paige?”
Jack should be with Paige. They had that connection from the get-go, and the audience definitely likes that. But
Jack hasn’t made the best choices in terms of
Paige! The feelings that he has for her are still very strong, though…
“Do you enjoy wearing Jack’s dog collar?”
Yeah, I’ve got used to it now. When I put it on, I actually feel quite confident and proper! It’s the same for Jack – once he has the collar on, he becomes that reliable role model in the community. His persona is different with the collar off, though – he does love a beer when he’s off duty!
“Should Jack stick with God or be with Paige?”
“I think Jack is a rubbish priest! What do you think?”
Look, he’s a pretty trendy, hip priest – he wears jeans instead of slacks, and he’s probably the youngest priest I’ve ever seen. But he can hold a sermon, and he’s liked and trusted within the community, so he’s okay! He’s broken a few vows and now has a kid on the way – but we all make mistakes.
“Is it true that you’re a firefighter in your spare time? And would you give up acting to do that full-time?”
I’ve been a firefighter for 13 years – I started off in a rural brigade out near my family’s farm, and now I work for a full volunteer brigade just 15 minutes from the Neighbours studios. It’s a huge commitment, I train for up to six hours a week, as well as dealing with the calls that come through outside of my work hours. I haven’t considered doing it full-time yet. I could potentially see myself doing it somewhere down the track, maybe in about 10 years or so. It would be a great career.
“What’s your favourite thing to do on a day off from Neighbours?”
I love to go out on my motorbike. I have a WR250,
which I’ve had since I was 14 – I bought it when it was brand new, and spent all my savings on it! So any time off I have, I’ll take that out into the bush and go winding through the tracks, that’s an absolute dream for me.
“Are you still in touch with any of your pals from Home and Away [Andrew played Spencer Harrington from 2013 to 2015]?”
Yeah, my closest friend from
Home and Away is Charles Cottier, who played Dexter Walker. I also have a lot of respect for Jake Speer [Oscar Macguire], and I’ll catch up with my on-screen brother Johnny Ruffo [Chris Harrington] every so often, as well. But I have most of the cast on social media, so I’m fairly up to date on their lives.
“Would you like Jack to have some parents or siblings in the show?”
The Neighbours producers deliberately kept it open about Jack’s family and have never really given any specifics, but I think towards the end of the year, we’ll be exploring those options. I’m actually trying to get Charles a job on
Neighbours as Jack’s brother! Charles has been in LA and done brilliantly there, but he’s back home in Brisbane now and doesn’t have a steady job. So I’ll definitely be putting Charles’ name forward for anything that crops up!
“If you could play any other character in Neighbours, who would it be and why?”
That’s an interesting question! I love the way Ryan Moloney plays Toadie. Some of his stuff is just so original, he ad-libs all the time, and he’s got incredible expressions. But I also love the character of Gary – there are some funny scenes coming up with him. He’s the complete opposite of Jack, and I’d love to play a bit more of a free character who has no shame. “What was your favourite subject at school?” Physics and maths. I love that stuff, and that’s what pushed me to study civil engineering at university. I just like knowing the physics behind how things work – I was always breaking things and putting them back together as a kid. My poor mum! Funnily enough, I never studied drama at school. It wasn’t until later that I considered acting as a way to build my confidence. “Who has the better catering – Neighbours or Home and Away?” Do you mean food in scenes? If so,
Home and Away would win hands down! On Neighbours, we barely get to eat in scenes any more, but on Home and Away there was a lady called Carol who made everything from scratch. She’s been there since the show started, and she’s just an incredible cook. “Have you and Jodi Anasta [aka Elly] swapped stories about when you were on Home and Away?” I saw Ray Meagher [Alf] last year, and he spoke so highly of Jodi [she played Alf ’s granddaughter Martha]. I told her what he’d said and we reminisced about the show.
“Are you in touch with your Home and Away pals?” “I’m always seeing pictures on Instagram of you with lots of dogs – how many of them are yours?” …asks reader Shauna Sleet from London
