Cleo pours out her heart to Joel
WILL HER FORBIDDEN ROMANCE WITH JOEL END IN HEARTACHE?
Smitten Cleo finally pours her heart out and confesses her love to Joel this week – but is the trainee priest set to break her heart?
Despite the fact that Joel has pledged himself to God in his role as a seminarian, that’s not stopped him and Cleo from growing closer in recent weeks. It’s no wonder Cleo’s been given hope that he might ditch his calling and pledge his love to her instead…
“Cleo is definitely hoping that he’ll leave the Church behind so they can head off into the sunset together,” chuckles Nadine Mulkerrin, who plays the loved-up lass. “She knows that Joel is unattainable right now since he’s a man of the cloth, but she’s got all these mixed emotions – and she definitely really likes him.”
It’s not just flirting with attractive ladies that’s against the rules of the Church – we’re pretty sure wannabe priests aren’t supposed to dabble in drugs, either! So when Cleo spots Joel meeting a shady character to buy heroin, she’s determined to keep him on the straight and narrow.
“After Cleo sees Joel doing a drug deal, she’s worried about him,” confirms Nadine. “She’s been mixed up with heroin herself, so it’s kind of like role reversal – now she’s the one telling him to remember all the things he told her when she was battling it.”
To help her beau fight his cravings, Cleo suggests that they take their minds off the drugs by cleaning Joel’s motorbike – and it’s while they’re having a heart-toheart over the sponge and bucket that Cleo can’t help revealing her hidden feelings.
“Joel’s on a comedown from drugs at the time, and Cleo just kind of blurts it out during a heated discussion,” explains Nadine. “It’s actually a really sweet scene, and I think it’s something the audience has been yearning to see for quite a while. Maybe Cleo will get her happy ending this time…”
Somehow we doubt that will happen – this is Hollyoaks, after all. And Cleo’s relationships do have a tendency to end in total disaster, and occasionally someone dying! So will Joel
