Jack wants to keep Matthew

HOW DOES HE PLAN TO STOP CHARLIE?

- Laura Heffernan

Jack is placed in a desperate position this week, as Charlie takes the first steps in applying for residency of Matthew. And with it looking more and more likely that he’ll lose his stepson forever, Jack takes drastic action in a last-ditch effort to swing the odds in his favour.

Charlie’s return to Walford has turned Jack’s life upside down – and unbeknown to him, the unwelcome visit was orchestrated by his conniving brother Max. Thanks to the dastardly duo’s plotting, poor Jack is not only anxious that his family is about to be torn apart, he also has a possible assault charge hanging over his head! And as Charlie notifies social services of his plan to take his son home with him to Ireland, Jack considers his next move…

“As if losing his beloved Ronnie wasn’t bad enough, Jack would be completely broken if Matthew was taken away from him too,” reckons our Square insider. “Matthew may not be his by blood, but Jack has always considered him to be as much his child as Ricky or Amy. He truly believes that Walford is the best place for Matthew to grow up – and how could he ever forgive himself for turning his back on Ronnie’s little boy?”

Although Max is more than happy to hang his sibling out to dry, Jack is lucky that he has people fighting his corner. This week, helpful Honey offers to give him a break while she takes the kids to the playground – but with Charlie lurking nearby, things soon turn ugly. However, he soon scarpers once the feisty lass has given him a piece of her mind!

Even mum-of-two Stacey is on hand for Jack to help talk through his options. But as she tries to make him see the reality of his situation, he concludes that the future is bleak.

“Jack has no confidence in himself following his conversation with Stacey,” sighs our spy. “He knows that, like Charlie, he’s going to have to play dirty if he wants to win this battle – though saying that the plan he forms is extreme is an understatement! While there’s nothing Jack wouldn’t do to

keep his family together, he really crosses a line.”

As Jack prepares to take action, Max has already figured out what his brother is up to and tries to reason with him – but neither realise that young Amy and Ricky are listening in. And Jack is left with yet more to contemplate after an unexpected new arrival turns up at his door…

Will he still plough ahead with his attempt to defeat Charlie once and for all?
