Yummy mummy Goldie Mcqueen is always run ragged thanks to her troublesome twin boys – but her real-life alter ego Chelsee Healey, 28, tells us that she’s looking forward to a chilled day today.
The star has entered the final phase of her pregnancy, and is hoping for a few restful weeks before she welcomes her first child into the world! And while mum-to-be Chelsee is bursting with excitement, her character Goldie is fearing for the future of her own kids now that Shane is back in the picture…
How is Goldie feeling about Shane returning to the family fold?
She’s really had enough of him! She’s finally seen sense and isn’t giving in to him this time. It feels good to see her stand up to him, because he needs telling that he can’t keep coming and going out of her life. I’m enjoying playing Goldie with more backbone.
How does she plan to get rid of him?
Well, Ellie sees Goldie and Shane in the pub, and just leaps in to ask, “Oh my gosh, who is that deadbeat person?”. Ellie is disgusted by how Shane treats the mother of his children, so she literally offers Goldie money to bribe him into leaving! It’s been nice filming with Sophie Porley [aka Ellie] and it would be good for Goldie to have a friend, because she hasn’t got many…
Would the twins approve of the bribe?
Hunter has his head screwed on and knows what Shane is like, but Prince idolises him. And Shane secretly asks Prince to come with him! If Prince had a choice between Goldie and Shane, I think he’d pick his dad because he reckons he’s amazing. But Goldie would be absolutely devastated if she were to lose Prince – it would be losing a part of her.
The role of Shane has now been recast, with Michael Salami taking over from Lanre Malaolu. Has it been strange filming with a brand-new Shane?
I mean, when a character switches actor, obviously it takes a bit of getting used to. But it’s been really lovely!
It’s been nice getting to know Michael and he’s been doing a very good job. Hopefully, I’ll get to work with him on for a long time.
And what’s it been like watching Theo Graham, who plays Hunter and Malique Thompson-dwyer, who plays Prince, begin to take on their own storylines?
Yeah, I’m a very proud Chelsee! Honestly, they’re doing so great and I think they’re coming across really well on screen. I love seeing them do their own thing and showing exactly what they can do. They’re such good boys!
You’ll soon be a mum yourself, as will Jennifer Metcalfe, aka Mercedes! What’s it been like experiencing pregnancy together?
It’s been really nice! It’s a massive help knowing someone is going through the same thing as you, and it’s been great to share this time. All we do on set is talk about babies, how we’re feeling, and what’s to come. Jen is due before me, which is very exciting, so hopefully she’ll pop any time soon! We’ll definitely get together when both babies are here.
Have any other Hollyoaks mums been offering you advice?
Oh yeah, Nicole [Barber-lane, who plays Myra, and has two children] has been really lovely. She actually left me a present in my dressing room today, which is so sweet of her! I’ve been lucky that I can get some tips and have an idea of what to expect.
Are you looking forward to going on maternity leave?
I’ve been saying I can’t wait to be free, but I have actually had a couple of days off recently and not known what to do with myself! So I don’t know any more. I think I might get a bit restless, and it’s a shame my initial stint on the show has been cut short. But everyone keeps telling me to get my rest in, because there will be none once the baby’s here!
Goldie would be absolutely devastated if she were to lose Prince!
