Nick to drown in quicksand?

A DAY TRIP TO THE BEACH DESCENDS INTO DISASTER…

- Kate White

There’s horror at the beach for Nick this week – when he is trapped in quicksand after a big fight with Leanne! But will anyone hear his screams for help?

The seaside sojourn is suggested by Nick as a way to prove that he’s willing to play happy families with sworn enemies Steve and Peter, as well as fiancée Leanne and their children. But far from helping to forge a truce, Nick instead lashes out and shows his true colours to Leanne.

When she storms off in shock, infuriated Nick stomps away from exasperated Steve and Peter. However, he’s soon wishing that he’d kept his enemies closer…

“He hasn’t bargained on the tide or the quicksand!” says Ben Price, who plays desperate Nick. “By this point, he knows he can never be happy with Leanne because there is too much going on, so he takes himself away from the situation. Nick isn’t planning to kill himself, he just goes to a dangerous part of the beach without realising.”

The day begins with Leanne determined to find a way for all the members of her blended family to find some common ground. After Nick’s attempt to gazump Peter and Toyah’s bid to buy the Rovers, she’s hoping to restore order in the clan. So, Leanne is stunned when Nick proposes they all go to the seaside, and that Steve

accompany them, since he’s baby Oliver’s biological father. Is Nick seriously hoping to give peace a chance?

“It’s a very weird situation,” admits Ben. “Nick is hoping that Steve or Peter will mess up and that one or both of them will be seen for who they truly are. But Nick only ends up exposing his own personality flaws and issues.”

The crunch comes during a friendly game of football, when Nick unleashes his fury on Peter. He’s still smarting over Leanne’s decision to give her ex-hubby an alibi for the night Ken was pushed down the stairs, especially as he knows she’s lying. Thinking that she can’t hear them, Nick gives Peter merry hell over the lie, and reveals that he saw Peter elsewhere on the night Ken was attacked.

However, Leanne hears every word – and, furious that

Nick never came forward to support Peter’s alibi, dumps him on the spot. Nick then has a fierce showdown with Peter and Steve, before wandering off – seemingly to his doom!

“I was surprised that this was his exit storyline, and I wanted to know how it tied into everything that’s been happening with Nick,” shares Ben. “But it does tie in brilliantly. Psychologically, Nick is really losing it over this situation with Steve and Oliver. He doesn’t like who he’s become.”

Will Nick escape, or is he destined for a watery grave?
