As Darcy enters the next phase of her twisted plan to win back Adam – which includes seducing his little brother Jesse – his future with Maxine falls into her lap when young Toby makes a shocking accusation against his new stepmum. And Aisling is just as happy to be a thorn in the side of her on-screen love rival…
Has Darcy’s devious behaviour come as a surprise to you?
A little! I always knew she was going to cause trouble, but not that she’d be so clever. The writers weren’t expecting such a huge reaction from the audience, so now they’ve gone for it and made Darcy as manipulative as possible!
What’s the fan verdict on her right now?
Oh, they really hate her! She’s come in to try and split up this amazing couple. It doesn’t help that Maxine is such a great character and has been in Hollyoaks for years, so she has a lot of support from the fans. But there are a lot of people who actually tell me they like Darcy, because she’s bringing drama to the show. I’m building up a Team Darcy fanbase, and it’s brilliant!
Why is she determined to reunite with Adam after so many years?
They got together when they were both really young, and he was her first love. She doesn’t see the point of life without him, because he’s everything to her. Darcy is a very proud person, and she was worried about finding Adam in case he rejected her. But she’s determined to get what she wants…
This week, Toby accuses Maxine of hitting him. How does Darcy react?
She believes him because he’s her son, of course. But this is also great ammo for Darcy! After Maxine is questioned and released, and threatens to leave Adam because of all the stress, Toby secretly tells Darcy he was lying – but she urges him to keep going with it!
Is she worried about being a bad influence?
There is definitely initial shock, because he’s playing the game like her now! But then again, this way she’s more likely to get rid of Maxine and have her shot at a perfect family. What she’s doing is wrong, but I actually believe Darcy is a nice person at heart. She’s just very damaged.
How have you found working with the young actor who plays Toby?
His real name is Lucas [Haywood], and he’s fantastic! Honestly, he’s so talented. When we’re rehearsing before a scene, and one of us forgets our lines like we always do, he’ll add it in! We have a great relationship.
How do you get into character?
I have a miniature dachshund called Mildred, and sometimes I read lines with her! How weird is that? I videoed us practising the other day, and I think she was playing Jesse. Mildred is my life.
Is Nikki Sanderson (Maxine) worried you might steal her leading man?
Not at all – she’s loving this story! Darcy has been great for Maxine’s character because we’ve seen her become quite fiery. Nikki and I are genuinely great mates, and having such a good time playing this story out together.
