Smitten David kisses Shona as she fights for her life in the hospital this week – unaware that he’s falling for the mother of Kylie’s killer.
It was Shona who rushed to the Platt family’s aid when she discovered vulnerable Bethany was being used by Nathan, then told the police all about the abuse she suffered at the sexual predator’s hands. But afterwards, Shona collapses, succumbing to the injuries she received from a beating by Nathan’s thugs. As Shona goes into surgery for a ruptured spleen, David faces his true feelings for her. And it seems they are reciprocated…
“These emotions have been bubbling away for a while, and now they’re coming to the surface,” says Julia Goulding, who plays Shona. “Shona fancies David quite a bit, and what she loves about him is that he’s different from anyone she’s been with before. She likes that he’s funny, and she sees that he’s a good father.”
SECRETS & LIES
Of course, David is the sole parent to kids Max and Lily because Shona’s son Clayton murdered their mother, Kylie. It’s not Shona’s fault that he committed the devastating crime, but she knows David will find it hard to get past her connection to Clayton. In fact, she’s sure that if he knew, he’d want nothing to do with her.
“This secret is starting to really eat Shona alive,” shares
Julia. “She’s getting closer to David’s children, and feels worse by the day as her feelings grow. So when David kisses her, her tummy flips and she’s very happy – but it’s fleeting. The reality of lying to him hits her. While Shona desperately wants to tell David, the closer they get, the harder it is.”
QUESTION TIME
The operation on Shona’s spleen is completed successfully, but David is confused when he’s told there were complications because of her C-section scar. He doesn’t understand why she’s never mentioned a child, and Gail warns Shona that David is asking questions. The two women had hoped to spare him the truth, but it’s a secret that is hard to bury – especially after he brings Max and Lily to Kylie’s grave later in the week, and finds Shona there.
“She’s panicked when David sees her,” reveals Julia. “Who knows if she just decides to spill the beans? Whatever happens, Shona doesn’t regret coming to Weatherfield. She’s found a place in this community, a job, a home – and she’s met David!”
