Brave Bethany is left distraught this week, after the police admit they are dropping the case against wicked Nathan.
Despite knowing that Nathan was trying to sell Bethany into a dark world of sex trafficking abroad, the detectives’ case isn’t robust enough to charge him. But there’s worse to come when Bethany’s mum Sarah turns to someone she think can help – vile copper Neil, who is in cahoots with Nathan!
“After the hell she went through at the hands of Nathan and then her courageous escape, Bethany hoped she could save other girls from the same fate,” sighs our cobbles source. “She’s found comfort in talking to Mary, who was also a victim of rape. She understands Bethany’s pain.”
What they haven’t bargained on is how adept Nathan is at evading the law – helped by Neil, who works for the sex trafficking ring. So it’s a horrible moment for Sarah when she has to explain to Bethany that the police have been round to let them know that the Crown Prosecution Service can’t pursue the case.
The news hits Bethany hard, and she turns all her anger on herself. It doesn’t matter that everyone, including the authorities, are telling her that she is the victim in all of this – Bethany feels as though she’s to blame. She thinks that she was stupid to fall for Nathan, and gullible to believe him. And given her history of self-harm, Sarah is terrified that Bethany will do something foolish.
“The problem is, Sarah believes she knows someone who can help her daughter through all of this,” shares our snoop. “So she calls the ‘kindly’ policeman who helped her and the family reach out to Bethany during their lowest moments. What Sarah doesn’t realise is that the man she trusts is Neil – the ringleader of Nathan’s group of criminals who rape and traffick girls!”
