Gossip has been rife over the identity of Kate Connor’s new love interest on the Street, with Faye Brookes recently teasing a hot romance for her character.
So, these sneaky snaps of the star filming with actress Melissa John – who is joining the cobbles as new character Imogen – have led us to wonder if the pretty blonde will be the lucky lady in question! Weatherfield bosses aren’t giving away many details on Melissa’s alter ego at this stage, but the star hasn’t been able to hide her excitement at joining the much-loved soap…
“I was in LA when I found out I’d got the part,” explains the actress, who works as a disability campaigner in the industry, having been born with part of her right arm missing. “It was 2.30am when my phone rang, and it was my agent saying something about Corrie.
The line was breaking up, so I didn’t know if I’d been cast – but then I got an email to say that I wasn’t dreaming!
“People know how hard I’ve worked for actors with disabilities in the industry,” adds Melissa. “It’s brilliant for me, but also an amazing breakthrough. Corrie is the most watched soap in the UK, and the only way we’ll make a change in society is by reflecting it on TV.”
