Carmel is upset when she receives her divorce papers from cheating hubby Umar, and struggles with her emotions. But thanks to some words of encouragement from Denise, she decides that she needs to lift her spirits by going allout for what she wants now she’s a single girl. Unfortunately for Carmel, she’s jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire with bad boy Max!

Max has been working hard to win over Carmel so he can glean information from her position with the council. Far from it being a genuine attraction, lovely Carmel is simply a pawn in Max’s sinister game, meaning he’s likely to drop her as soon as she stops being useful.
Sadly, she has no idea that Max has ulterior motives. So, once the gut punch of the divorce papers fades a little, Carmel puts in a call to the new man in her life.
“After everything she’s been through, Carmel doesn’t feel like wasting time waiting for Max to chase her,” says our Walford insider. “If she was interested in anyone but sly Max, that might be a winning strategy, but Carmel is playing right into his hands.”

Carmel should have realised what Max’s game was when she caught him looking through her council files, but she wants to believe Max is genuine in his feelings. So Max now has a free hand to find exactly what he needs in her paperwork. He tells Carmel that he wants their blossoming relationship to be kept quiet for now, and promises they can go public soon – but if those close to her knew that she was getting in too deep with Max, surely they’d give her chapter and verse on his awful reputation.
“It’s amazing that Carmel doesn’t know how much of a scoundrel Max is,” sniffs our snitch. “Most of the women in Albert Square would have a cautionary tale to tell! The problem is that Max is the king of seduction, and he’s hooked Carmel. So even when Denise quizzes her and correctly guesses that she’s going to see Max, Carmel denies everything.”
