Adam & Eva: forbidden fruit!
THE SLY PAIR JOINED FORCES TO PUNISH AIDAN – BUT COULD TRUE LOVE BE DEVELOPING? WE ASK CORRIE’S SAM ROBERTSON FOR HIS VIEWS ON THE SITUATION…
It takes a pretty terrible boyfriend to make Adam Barlow look like a stand-up guy – so congratulations to Aidan for setting the bar so low that a grasping, arrogant solicitor appears trustworthy! Adam joined forces with Aidan’s wronged fiancée Eva in her plot to take him for everything, and his actions were motivated by cold, hard cash. But as they’ve grown closer, Adam has seen that Eva isn’t just a pretty face, and it’s brought out his softer side. Could he actually be falling in love?
“That wasn’t Adam’s motivation at the start, but the further they get involved together, the more he’s developing feelings for Eva,” explains Sam Robertson, who plays hunky Adam. “He’s started to fancy her, and that’s taken him by surprise. Initially, Adam saw Eva as just a vehicle to wreak havoc on the Connors and get his dad’s empire back.”
There’s no doubt that the late, great Mike Baldwin will never be dead while Adam lives. For most of the time he’s been back in Weatherfield, Adam has seemed incredibly shallow – as if all he cares about is money. But Sam reckons we already know that Adam has a soft spot for the underdog, and there’s a good reason why.
“I think Adam sees himself as a bit of an underdog, and that makes him want to fight the corner of people like Eva and Chesney against those who treat them badly,” he muses. “Adam has always been a lone wolf – his parents died when he was young, and he’s had to fend for himself. There’s something in helping these people that comes from that feeling of being an outsider, and that’s what makes him passionate about them.”
This softer side must be the reason that Adam doesn’t totally freak out when Eva comes to him in a terrible state, begging to call off the plan. She’s been struggling in the face of Aidan’s excitement over the baby, plus his worries over dad Johnny’s health. Adam agrees to Eva’s request to return the hard drive with the Underworld information on it – but neither Adam nor Eva realise that Maria has noticed their closeness.
“Adam is oblivious to the fact that Maria has sussed something is going on,” says Sam. “That is a very dangerous position to be in, because there’s no love lost between him and Maria, or between Maria and Eva!” It’s been a torturous time for Eva, who confides in Adam that she can’t bear being with Aidan. She tells him that she plans to escape to her mum’s place in France for a few weeks – and seeing her pain, Adam’s heart melts and he leans in for kiss.
“He can tell how genuinely hurt Eva is by everything that’s happened to her,” shares Sam. “There’s chemistry between them – so when she thanks him for all he’s done for her, Adam acts on instinct. He has genuine feelings for Eva.”
Following her treatment at the hands of love rat Aidan, it may be a big mistake for Eva to dive into another relationship. But perhaps having someone who loves him could be the making of Adam…
“I think they’d make a good couple,” insists Sam. “I’ve watched the scenes Catherine [Tyldesley] and I have done, and I think it’s there. Adam spent the first nine months being on the periphery of everyone else’s relationships and having none of his own.
Now his game plan is to get the factory and the girl. The problem is Adam’s greed
– he wants it all, and that may be his downfall!”
