“Mary is over the moon to have her son back in her life after all these years,” grins our mole. “Meeting her grandson for the first time is such a wonderful moment for her. Never mind that Jude has come all this way under false pretences – Mary’s joy cancels out any concerns Norris might have. What could possibly wipe that great big smile from her face?”
SUSPICIOUS MINDS
Unfortunately, first in the running to ruin everything for Mary is Angie. When Mary insists the wedding will be a low-key and intimate affair with no friends invited, Angie starts to get suspicious – and is soon giving her motherin-law the third degree.
“While Jude is on cloud nine after Mary asks him to walk her down the aisle, something doesn’t sit quite right with his wife,” sighs our sneak. “Angie treats Mary to a spot of pampering at a spa the day before the wedding, but takes the opportunity to put her on the spot about her ‘romance’ with Norris.
“As we know, Mary wears her heart on her sleeve – so it doesn’t take long for Angie’s questioning to make her visibly uncomfortable. Of course, that doesn’t go unnoticed by Angie…”
Back on the cobbles, it’s Norris’ turn to be the reassuring one, as he hugs his future wife in the Rovers and declares how honoured he feels at becoming her husband. Angie looks on dubiously all the while – but it’s Jude, rather than his inquisitive other half, who soon looks set to derail the big day.
“As Jude proudly escorts his mum into the register office, he announces that he’s thinking about tracking down his father’s family,” reveals our snitch. “He has no idea he was conceived when Mary was sexually assaulted – and she’s horrified at the prospect of Jude finding that out.”
UNHAPPILY EVER AFTER?
While our Street snoop stops short of revealing whether Mary’s horror ultimately prevents her from saying “I do”, the realisation that her son needs to be told the truth about his father leaves her in an awful state. Ironically, it’s Angie whom Mary initially confides in – with neither of them realising that Jude has inadvertently overheard every word of the sad conversation.
“Jude is knocked sideways when Mary admits to Angie that she was raped by a family friend,” shares our informant. “Norris bravely attempts to reassure Jude that Mary has only been trying to protect him – but it’s down to Mary herself to tell her son that she’s always loved him, regardless of what she’s been through.”
As emotional Mary finally tells Jude everything, how will her beloved boy react?
