What is Phelan hiding?
NICOLA IS SUSPICIOUS OF HIS ODD BEHAVIOUR…
The heat is on for Phelan this week, as it becomes clear to those around him that he’s up to his neck in something very dodgy!
Eileen and Nicola notice that Pat has been acting a bit shifty lately, prompting Nicola to tail her old man and confront him. Just what is he up to, and will she get to the bottom of it?
“This is Pat Phelan we’re talking about, so he could be involved in any number of illegal activities!” warns our Weatherfield sneak. “But what he doesn’t bank on is Nicola sussing him out. When it comes to being one step ahead of the game, you don’t need a DNA test to prove that she is her father’s daughter!”
As Phelan sneaks away from the cobbles, Nicola follows him. The builder soon realises she’s on to him, though, and claims that he’s working on a house conversion and merely disposing of an old mattress. However, Nicola is horrified to see that her dad has a nasty cut to his head. How did he get it?
“This isn’t the first time Phelan has come home sporting a mystery injury,” our mole reminds us. “He turned up a few weeks back nursing a black eye, and claimed it was an accident. Is it a coincidence that he keeps getting hurt, or is there more to these scrapes than meets the eye?”
As Nicola and Eileen fuss over Pat’s wound, he is clearly on edge – and is especially prickly when questioned about the mattress. Nicola suggests that he donate the item to a homeless shelter rather than chuck it away, and eventually Phelan snaps, taking out his frustration on his daughter.
Later, Phelan feels rotten for having a go at Nicola, offering an apology before showing her a receipt for some mattresses he’s given to charity. And it seems the pair have buried the hatchet when Nicola introduces Phelan to her police officer boyfriend, Scott. She and Scott have bought a derelict building together, and hope to enlist reluctant Phelan’s help in converting it into a youth centre.
However, Pat’s feelings are hurt when he realises that Scott has no idea he is Nicola’s father. Has his weird behaviour done more damage to his relationship with her than he thought? And if he is into something illegal, how long can Phelan cover it up with a cop sniffing around?
