Gold-digger... or heart of gold?

POLLARD CAN’T DECIDE IF FAITH CAN BE TRUSTED…

- Allison Jones

Faith and Pollard endure a disastrous date this week, and Faith is devastated when she’s rejected by her new beau.

With Pollard’s family worried that the Dingle dame is only looking to con him out of his cash, he can’t work out whether Faith is the lady of his dreams or a nightmare in waiting.

So when Pollard pulls away as she moves in for a kiss, Faith is mortified – and, assuming he is just a cad, wastes no time in moving on with Rodney! But will Pollard realise he’s got Faith badly wrong?

“This all starts with a bit of a mistaken moment,” explains Sally Dexter, who plays Faith. “Faith goes to kiss Eric in the back of a car, and he draws back – because basically, he’s worrying about what his son David has been saying about Faith being a gold-digger. But Faith thinks that it’s because of her mastectomy, and that Eric can’t deal with it. It’s something she’s very vulnerable about, so it’s no surprise that she quickly jumps to that conclusion.”

Gutted by Pollard’s slight, proud Faith refuses to let him see her hurt – and the pair exchange harsh words when they later bump into each other at the shop. Meanwhile, David has been having second thoughts about the assumption he’s made of Faith, and urges his dad to go for it with her.

But when Pollard finds Faith in the Woolpack, flirting up a storm with Rodney, is it already too late for second chances?

“Faith is flirting with Rodney simply because he’s there!” insists Sally. “He’s always been a magnificentlooking man, but I suspect he’s more interested in her than she is in him. So while she certainly finds Rodney an acceptable substitute for the time being, she’s really just attempting to get back at Eric.

“Faith reckons that Eric has a bit of a pole up his backside which needs to be removed. Frankly, she doesn’t want to experience rejection like that

again, so she’s just trying to protect herself.”

However, when Rodney later suggests that they head out for dinner and take the bus into town, Faith is not at all impressed. As they make their way to the stop, Pollard goes gliding past in a Bentley car, leaving Faith to wonder what might have been. So is it true that money is all she’s after?

“Well, Faith does appreciate the fact that Eric has cash, and can look after her in the way that she feels she should be,” chuckles Sally. “If you had seen the size of his barn conversion then I’m sure you’d feel the same way! But she’d be extremely affronted if she knew that Eric suspected her to be a gold-digger.”

So while Faith endures a cheap night out with Rodney, it looks as though she and Pollard have had their time – but is Faith even ready to settle down with just one man?

“She’s telling herself that’s what she wants,” shares Sally. “Faith was born under a wandering star, though, so it wouldn’t be an easy task.

I’ve had quite a few people telling me she should go for someone younger – but I say give Eric a chance!”
