ELECTRIC SHOCKS
HOLLIDAY GRAINGER STARS IN THE FIRST TALE OF A NEW SCI-FI SERIES…
Ten different stories set in their own unique worlds will be told in this new series, with each one inspired by the short stories of science-fiction writer Philip K Dick. We begin this week with The Hood
Maker, which takes place in a world populated by powerful mutant telepaths, who are viewed with suspicion by much of society, but also considered a useful tool by those in charge. “It’s set in a futuristic time, after a meteor shower that has completely destroyed the internet and a lot of electricity, so it feels almost like it’s set in the past,” explains Holliday Grainger, who stars in the first episode. “I play Honor, a telepath or ‘teep’, and she has a role within the government, which is quite unusual as teeps mostly have the lower jobs in society. Honor is almost like software – she reads people’s minds when the government tells her to.”
Understandably, there is resistance to the idea of forced mind-reading, so some citizens have started wearing hoods that block the teeps’ powers – and Honor is recruited to work alongside Agent Ross (Richard Madden) to discover who’s behind the various rebellions.
“It’s an interesting play on how much we use the internet, and how much of our personal information is private and how much isn’t,” muses Holliday.
“In this world, even your thoughts aren’t private – so there’s a social uprising against that. It’s a world on the brink of revolution.”
