Milo: his big secret revealed!

WE CHAT TO NATHAN MORRIS IN THE WAKE OF HIS CHARACTER’S SHOCK REVELATION…

- Laura Heffernan

When lone wolf Milo turned up in the village all those months ago, who’d have guessed that he was secretly at the centre of a story that aired a whopping 13 years ago? In a dramatic flashback to Gordon and Helen Cunningham’s tragic final moments, it was revealed that teenage Milo was responsible for the crash that killed the much-loved couple! Their sudden deaths devastated the family they left behind – but having got to know and love wacky computer genius Milo over the past few months, fans have yet to turn on him now the bombshell has finally been dropped.

“I’m not public enemy number one yet,” chuckles Nathan Morris, who plays Milo. “I’ve had a great response. Nobody suspected anything for a long time – except for one person on Twitter who hit the nail on the head. I don’t know how they figured it out. I kind of wanted to shake their hand, but also bribe them into not spoiling the surprise for everyone!”

The big reveal came as a shock to most viewers, and Nathan informs us that fans have thrown many accusations at his cryptic character. The actor also reveals that even

he was unaware of Milo’s backstory until accepting the job at Hollyoaks.

“Bryan [Kirkwood, the show’s series producer] made me watch the crash during a character meeting in my first week,” recalls the star. “I remember watching it live on TV all those years ago and it was a huge storyline back then, but

Milo will do anything to protect the Cunningham family…

I had no idea why they were playing me the scene. Then Bryan looked at me, and dramatically said, ‘You were the driver!’. I was gobsmacked to say the least.”

Milo’s sole purpose in the village is to make up for his tragic mistake by doing everything in his power to protect the Cunninghams. And though he may be a big softy on the surface, we’ve seen that he’ll go to extreme lengths for what he believes is the good of the family. This week, Dirk finds himself under Milo’s fire after Cindy is charged with handling stolen goods – having sold one of her hubby’s dodgy TV boxes! And while Dirk shows remorse, Milo is keen to make him pay.

“I think Milo is a force to be reckoned with, but in an unassuming way,” says Nathan. “He’s not a baddy like Mac or Warren, but he’s clever. The truth is, he always feels guilty doing bad things! He’ll do anything to protect the Cunninghams, though, so be wary if you cross them…”

Cindy and co have no idea just how closely they’re linked to their intriguing lodger, and while anxious Milo is keen to keep his past under wraps, Nathan is embracing it.

“It’s great to be part of Hollyoaks history, and I love that Milo has always been in the background for the Cunninghams,” he grins. “I enjoy working with the family, and being a newbie I’m always learning from them. Steph Waring [Cindy] and I always make each other laugh, and me and David [Kennedy, aka Dirk] really bounce off each other too.

It’s a pleasure being part of the group!”
