Couch POTATO
Actress and comedian Roisin Conaty picks her dream viewing…
I absolutely adored The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s so good, and it’s great to see a strong female cast. Also, just the timing of the show makes it feels incredibly chilling. I studied the book for my A-levels and it was a real awakening in terms of feminism – as a working-class woman who hadn’t really acknowledged that word. The TV series really adds to it.
I’ve tried not to watch much comedy this year
as I was trying to write one! But I did watch Girls, People Just Do Nothing and Broad City – that’s about it, really.
My favourite film? Tricky! Anything by
Nora Ephron – she’s my hero. I love When Harry Met Sally…, and Postcards From The Edge is one of my favourites – I don’t think it gets enough credit. I also love Double Indemnity and the original Heaven Can Wait.
When I’m unwinding I like anything to do with travel or nature
– like Blue Planet or Travel Man. (Even though I’ve done an episode of Travel Man, so I don’t watch that one!) If you’re staying in on your own, then 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown is quite a nice show because you can play along and it’s like sitting in with some mates!
If I could be on any other show,
I’d love to do an episode of Alan Partridge. I’d do that for free! I should have mentioned it as one of my favourite shows, but there are so many you think of after – why didn’t I say The Fast Show or French & Saunders?
