KATHERINE KELLY TELLS US WHY SHE COULDN’T RESIST THE ROLE OF THE VILLAIN…

We did a double-take when we heard Katherine Kelly was playing the antagonist in the new Strike Back.

Lovely Katherine, formerly Corrie’s Becky Mcdonald, as a cold, calculating terrorist? Some mistake, surely? But when we chatted to Katherine, she confirmed it was a part she was excited to play…

“What I like about this is that she never looks like the typical baddy,” explains Katherine. “She’s not a macho type, she’s an enemy they can’t quite figure out.”

So far Katherine’s character Jane Lowry has proven evasive, with the Section 20 team always one step behind – but Katherine tells us that’s about to change.

“You don’t see a lot of her for the first four episodes,” admits the star. “Then finally they catch up, and that’s when the character really kicks in! I was a bit worried at first, I said to the writer, ‘I hope it’s not like Jaws – it’s really scary until you see the fish!’”

The one thing we do know about Lowry is that she’s driven by her quest to get justice for her husband, and Katherine thinks that the story looks very different from her character’s perspective.

“The backdrop is this terror group,” she shares. “But her own mission is a lot more personal. What she cares about is her husband, and he’s dead in her mind, so she’s out for revenge for the love of her life.”
