How is Debbie coping after discovering Joe’s true identity?

She will be in shock for a long time. She just can’t take it in. Her initial reaction is obviously an outburst of pure hatred for Joe, but then she goes a little bit quiet. She does sink in on herself for a while, and goes back and forward with her emotions.

What does Debbie understand of why Joe has targeted her as part of his revenge?

In Joe’s own words, he’s gone for Debbie as she’s something that Charity cares about. And he thinks Charity killed his dad, so that’s why he’s back in the village, and why he hates Charity so much. But he’s ruined Debbie’s life in the process!

What was it like to film the scenes where Debbie found out about Joe?

Her first reaction was to trash the house Joe gave her after he chucked all of her stuff out on the road. We’ve worked hard on all of the reaction scenes, and spent time going through it all to get the journey right.

What’s it been like working with Ned Porteous (Joe)?

It’s great working with someone new, and I enjoyed filming in the nice hotel Joe lived in! All the characters involved in this story are different, so it has been interesting to see them interact.

Has Joe completely broken Debbie, do you think?

Part of her is quite broken, but she’s the sort of person who bounces back from things. I think that getting revenge might help her heal…

So will Debbie be plotting against Joe with revenge of her own?

Well, I can’t see this being the end! Her involvement with Joe has been such a huge part of her life, involving her children and setting up a family unit with him. I can’t imagine Debbie will just let that go, and there’s a lot of emotional stuff coming up. Debbie is a Dingle, after all!
