Gail’s ex Martin is on his way back to Weatherfield…
Now here’s a face we haven’t seen on the cobbles for a while! Actor Sean Wilson is due to reprise the role of Martin Platt, whom long-time viewers will remember as Gail’s second husband and father to their son David.
The character hasn’t been around since 2005, when he left Weatherfield to begin a new life in Liverpool. But a dramatic new story for David is set to pave the way for his dad’s return…
“With David rumoured to be at the heart of a harrowing male rape plot later this year, he’s going to need the support of his family,” explains our Street insider. “Martin is mentioned every now and again by David, who visits him off screen. But with troubling times ahead, it makes sense that his father would want to be there for him.”
Martin is the only one of Gail’s exhusbands to survive a marriage to her, with all of her other fellas six feet under! That’s not to say that their relationship didn’t have its troubles, though, with nurse Martin catching the eye of stalker Carmel Finnan and having a fling with Rebecca Hopkins.
He and Gail remained friends following their split – but Martin eventually left following a doomed romance with 16-year-old Katy Harris.
Speaking of his exit at the time, star Sean said Corrie bosses had done him a favour by writing out Martin – and he went on to be a cheese maker for Michelin-starred restaurants. He’ll be back on the cobbles this March.
