Couch POTATO

Actor Philip Cumbus picks his dream viewing…

-

I end up watching things later than most people.

I only watched the first season of Stranger Things a few weeks ago! But I devoured it incredibly quickly. It was an amazing mix of the old and the new: refreshing ideas, great stories, but combined with this powerful nostalgic element.

My son has just turned two, and I thought that Motherland perfectly captured the chaos of life as a parent.

The politics of childminding and favours, trying to give yourself as much free time as possible

– all things that resonate for us at the moment, I’m afraid to say!

My brother-in-law and I have a film club.

We’ve picked our top 100 films and every few weeks we watch one at random. Of all of them, I’d say The

Godfather is the one that most deserves its place on the list – it’s practically perfect as a piece of filmmaking.

For me, The West Wing is almost the best piece of television ever made.

It’s endlessly rewatchable, but the downside is that it makes you feel stupid. They all speak with such intelligence and can pull on all sorts of amazing literary references at will!

Growing up, I remember waking early on a weekend and stealing downstairs to watch Transworld

Sport on Channel 4. It would cover every sport you could imagine, some of which were so bizarre that they surely must have been made up! And it would lead nicely into Saved By The Bell!
