Ex-brookside star Louis Emerick is to play her fancy man…

Feast your eyes on the handsome fella set to put a twinkle back in Liz Mcdonald’s eye!

Mike Thornberry – a former school teacher of Liz’s son, Steve – will turn up in the Rovers next month and take a shine to his ex-pupil’s mother. And soap fans will recognise actor Louis Emerick, who is best known for playing Mick Johnson in Brookside…

“I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the cast of Corrie,” enthuses the star. “I first appeared on the cobbles in 1986 as a delivery man – it’s only taken me 32 years to be invited back! I can’t wait to start working alongside Simon [Gregson, who plays Steve] and Beverley [Callard, aka Liz], who I have known for years. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Star Beverley has already taken to Twitter to express her excitement on the casting, having confessed to Inside

Soap in a previous interview that she’d love Liz to get a new man. Her co-star Simon has also given his old mate Louis the thumbs up on social media, but what will Steve make of his mum’s new romance?

“Steve is very unimpressed when Liz starts flirting with Mike – and is horrified when she suggests that he offer his old teacher a job at Streetcars!” reveals our cobbles insider. “The idea of him giving his mum private tuition of a different kind is a thought that Steve would rather not process!”

Louis played Mick in Brookie from 1989 to 2001, with big storylines such as Mick being stalked by Jenny Swift, and a euthanasia plot that saw his character help mother-in-law Gladys to die. The actor has already commenced filming on Corrie, and will make his cobbles debut next month.
