Halfway won’t give up on Whit
WILL WHITNEY AND HALFWAY GET TOGETHER ON VALENTINE’S DAY?
There might finally be romance for Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway this week, when the love-struck squaddie receives a Valentine’s Day card from pub co-worker Whitney – and assumes that she wants to become more than just good friends.
Despite the fact that Whit has already given him the brush-off and denied she has romantic feelings for him, Halfway reckons the card is a sign she’s had a change of heart – so wastes no time in getting Linda to help him prepare a romantic surprise for Whitney at the Vic. But how will the bubbly barmaid react when she arrives at the pub and sees how far Halfway has gone to impress her?
“Whitney has a complicated history with the Carter men,” our Walford mole reminds us. “Her marriage to Lee broke down, and she later had a brief flirtation with Mick. Whitney does think Halfway is a lot of fun, but she’s wary of starting a relationship with him since he’s an ex-army mate of Lee’s, and virtually considered to be one of the Carter family.”
With his Valentine’s Day plans in danger of fizzling rather than sizzling, Halfway begins to wonder what a fella has to do to win over Whitney. He’s tried to woo her with a rose, candles and the diamond ring he swiped during the heist Mick was involved in, so he’s fast running out of ideas.
“While he’s not the sharpest tool in the box, Halfway is a likeable fella,” chuckles our spy. “He’s an old-fashioned romantic and has a cheeky charm, and we’ve already seen how he makes Whitney laugh.
She could probably do with someone like that in her life after her bad run with men.”
Feeling down in the dumps, Halfway is ready to call time on his stay at the Vic and bid byebye to the Square. But having already bailed Mick and Linda out of a crisis by giving them the diamond ring, is Halfway set to steal back some of the cash? It certainly looks that way when Whitney catches him with his hands in the pub till…
However, there’s yet another surprise in store for Whit. Once she discovers Halfway is hitting the highway, she realises she does have feelings for him – and asks him to stay for a drink!
“This could be the moment viewers have been waiting for,” reckons our snoop. “But with Halfway having packed his bags and headed for the Tube, it all depends on whether Whitney’s left it too late to tell him how she feels…”
