Andrew is loving being a new father…
He may be an old hand at parenthood on screen – after working with baby Gabe for nearly a year – but Andrew and his real-life girlfriend Jay Haggar have recently welcomed their first child together, daughter Skyla. And the star is besotted with his little’un…
“I know I’m biased as I’m her dad, but every time I look at her I think, ‘You’re amazing’,” gushes Andrew. “She’s so beautiful and everyone else adores her, so I’m pretty lucky.”
The actor was already stepdad to Jay’s son and daughter from a previous relationship, so adding a new member to their brood hasn’t been too much of an upheaval.
“Luckily Jay is very relaxed, and experienced in raising newborns,” grins Andrew. “I’m going through it all for the first time and learning it on the run. I didn’t go to any of those birthing classes they suggest you go to. Jay was like, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll tell you anything you need to know!’”
But Andrew isn’t the only new dad on the Neighbours set. His co-star Scott Mcgregor (Mark) welcomed daughter Evie a few weeks before Andrew’s new arrival – so have the doting daddies been sharing tips on changing nappies between scenes?
“Yes, and we’ve made some failed attempts to meet up with the babies outside work,” says Andrew. “There’s always something that crops up – when you have kids you spend more time with their friends than your own!”
