Michelle seeks another chance
MICHELLE ATTEMPTS TO BUILD BRIDGES WITH ALI…
Anxious Michelle tries to fix the mistakes of the past this week – but will Ali accept an olive branch from his estranged mother?
Now her son is back in Weatherfield, Michelle has been forced to confront their painful situation, and she’s hoping they can begin to forge a real relationship despite the past. However, Ali has made it quite clear that Michelle is a stranger to him and he has no desire to change that – a decision that his biological mum struggles to accept…
“What’s sad is that everybody involved in the baby swap saga was a victim,” sighs our Street informant. “Ali and Ryan were just innocent babies caught up in a horrific mistake, and their parents had no idea that they went home with the wrong sons all those years ago. Michelle and Ali’s first attempt at getting to know each other years ago was a disaster. With the benefit of hindsight, Michelle feels she has a second chance to bond with Ali, but she’s worried he won’t ever forgive her.”
However, Michelle is pleasantly surprised when she heads into the Rovers this week and spots Ali sitting with her ex-husband Steve. Despite their divorce, Michelle and Steve have remained on good terms, and the fact that Ali is enjoying a laugh with Steve is a good sign, as far as Michelle is concerned.
Steve was her partner when the baby swap nightmare unfolded, and he witnessed what they all went through close up. So after he sees Michelle and asks Ali if he is happy for her to join them, can reconciliation be that simple?
“Time has passed, but those scars are deep,” muses our snitch. “Ali has done a lot of growing up since Michelle last saw him, and he’s an accomplished young man.
But that abandoned, troubled teen is still lurking under the surface, and Michelle has to take responsibility for her part in that. It’s unlikely that they’ll be sharing a cuppa and conversation any time soon.”

former mother-in-law didn’t warn her about Ali working at the local medical centre. It’s a sobering moment when Liz admits that she only kept quiet because
Ali told her to – but she promises Michelle that she’s on her side. So when Liz encounters Ali again later, she advises him that he shouldn’t be so hard on Michelle, and to consider giving her a chance.
With everything that’s happened, though, will Ali ever change his mind?
