The BIG DEBATE!
Debbie’s plan against Joe went seriously awry when Ross was sprayed with acid – leading to some disturbing, difficultto-watch scenes. Many readers feel that Emmerdale has gone too far…
I think Emmerdale should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for the acid attack storyline. Yes, I know this terrible form of violence is a very real blight on our country right now, but I don’t think a soap should be using it just to spice up a storyline. All it shows is how easy it is to carry out such an attack, and might even put ideas into the heads of any troubled viewers watching, especially children. It’s a terrible risk to go with this story, and I truly pray that Emmerdale don’t come to regret it.

Soaps are a great way to bring serious subjects to a wider public, especially regarding health matters. But what has happened to Ross isn’t ‘raising awareness’ of acid attacks.
You can’t protect yourself against something like that. It’s not like a breast cancer storyline that encourages people to be checked out. This story does more to promote acid attacks than help to prevent them.

It’s absolutely terrible what has happened to Ross and I don’t enjoy watching it, but I still need to praise actor Michael Parr for his amazing performance as Ross.

One other aspect of this story gave some readers cause for concern…
How can Debbie ever come back from having caused something as horrible as this? I don’t think she will ever have my sympathy again.
