Priya is accused of harming Eliza!

THE SHARMAS BLAME HER FOR ELIZA’S INJURIES…

- Allison Jones

EMMERDALE | ITV MONDAY

The Sharma family is shattered this week, as Priya is accused of harming Eliza!

Jai and Megan’s daughter was recently rushed to hospital after bruises were discovered on her body – and with doctors stumped by what caused them, Rishi suggests that his own daughter could be to blame! But is Priya really capable of such a cruel act?

“Priya is devastated when Rishi accuses her,” sighs Fiona Wade, who plays her. “She has gone to the hospital to see that Eliza’s all right, and he literally just comes out with it. It’s because he walked in on her when Priya was trying to feed Eliza and Amba, and she lost her temper because the kids were playing up.

“She experienced a bit of a meltdown and threw a plate at the wall out of frustration,” continues the star. “Priya’s been having a hard time of it lately, but there’s just no way that she’d ever hurt Eliza!”

Horrified by what her dad is accusing her of, Priya is desperate to explain herself to the doctors after they reveal that Eliza’s bruises aren’t down to an epileptic fit, so are certified as suspicious. Consequently, the entire family will need to be interviewed by the police – sending tensions within the Sharma clan sky high.

“The atmosphere at home is not good,” admits Fiona. “Priya is just so hurt by it all, and Rishi is regretting bringing it up with her in the first place because of all the mess that it’s causing. Priya is questioned by police and social services, and Jai really doesn’t know what to think.”

Eventually, Eliza is allowed to return home, and Megan and Jai are both relieved and delighted. But when social services ban Eliza from being allowed to stay at Holdgate Farm – where Jai, Priya and Rishi are currently living –

Priya can’t believe her family doesn’t accept what she’s saying…”

Priya is devastated to realise that she’s still not trusted to be around her niece.

“It’s very difficult for Priya to convince her family that she’s not to blame,” shares Fiona. “Jai is really torn. He loves his sister, and he knows deep down that she hasn’t done anything. But he has to be protective because this is about his daughter. Everyone is turning on Priya, and it’s splitting the family apart…”

Priya doesn’t deny the fact that she’s not in the best place at the moment – but she is understandably distraught that her own nearest and dearest aren’t convinced that she’s innocent in all this. So as she comes to the decision to move out of the Sharma household, the question is: can the family ever be the same again?

“Priya ends up leaving her job at the factory too,” Fiona tells us. “Just like any working mother, she’ll have her moments of being stressed – however that does not equal what’s happened to Eliza. Priya just can’t believe that her family doesn’t accept what she’s saying.

“There could yet be a perfectly innocent explanation for what’s happened to Eliza – but there’s still a lot more speculation to come…”
