Ian seeks a reunion with Mel…

BUT MIGHT HE HAVE COMPETITION FROM JACK?

- Sarah Ellis

Mel is lost for words this week, as her ex Ian announces that they should give things another go!

It’s been almost 20 years since the pair got hitched – and even then their union only lasted a few hours. So what’s prompted Ian to try to win

Mel back after all this time?

“You can’t blame him for trying – Mel is quite a catch!” chuckles our Square insider. “Ian’s life has been one tragedy after another in the past few years, and since his wife Jane left him, he’s been feeling pretty lost. So when he sees his ex-missus back on the Square, looking gorgeous and running a new business, he reckons she’s exactly what he needs right now.”

The week kicks off with Ian returning from his trip to New Zealand, where he’s been spending quality time with his son Peter. Having taken a few weeks away from the Square, Ian comes back fired up and raring to go – but it would seem Walford isn’t quite ready for his positive new outlook!

While his mum Kathy is pleased to see her son, she’s also worried about how he’ll react when he finds out that Masood is using the chippy to sell his samosas. And her concerns turn out to be well- founded, as Ian quickly learns what’s going on – and wastes no time in confronting the pair!

Although the row prompts Masood to quit, Ian is not about to let this little setback dampen his spirts. He’s soon cajoling Mel into joining him for a drink, under the pretence that he wants to talk business – though it’s clear Mr Beale has something a little more romantic on his mind.

Ian is thus somewhat put out when Jack joins them for their meeting, but he doesn’t let that hamper his efforts to impress his former squeeze. He’s keen to prove to her that he’s a new man, one who has serious prospects for the future.

Ian is focused like a laser on what he wants – and that’s Mel!”

However, after he gets into another public slanging match with his nemesis Masood, he’s left more than a little embarrassed!

“Ian was hoping to make a good impression on Mel, and Masood puts paid to that,” hoots our informant. “However, Ian is focused like a laser on what he wants right now – and he makes it very clear to Mel that what he wants is her! He reckons they should get back together, and he clearly thinks she’d be mad to say no to him. Of course, he has always suffered these wild delusions…”

Ian’s declaration catches Mel off guard – but will she agree that they can make things work a second time round? She and Jack have been growing closer in recent weeks, and it seems there’s a spark between the two. So, could Ian’s happy bubble be burst if Mel turns him down in favour of Jack?
