David turns to his dad Martin in his time of need…
In an attempt to run and hide from his attack, David decides to head off to Liverpool to see his dad Martin at the end of this week. And the scenes herald the return of actor Sean Wilson, who was last seen in Coronation Street in 2005…
“Even before I stepped back into the building, I thought that the scripts were ace,” grins Sean, as we catch up with him on the
Corrie set. “David is in one of the biggest predicaments of his life – and he’s been in a few! Martin definitely knows there’s something wrong, but it could be girlfriend trouble or anything. Martin’s not silly, though, and he has a medical background – so as time goes on, he starts to get more and more worried about David.”
However, while Martin is deeply concerned about his son’s state of mind, he’s also busy packing up his things for his move to New Zealand! But Martin’s plans for a fresh start end up giving David an idea about his own future.
“Once or twice David comes really close to telling Martin what has happened, yet he doesn’t,” explains Sean. “And throughout all this, Martin is packing to go to New Zealand. This gives David a chance to get out of Dodge City, because he’s having to face his attacker every day – so he announces he’s moving to New Zealand too! He grabs the opportunity a little too quickly, though, and his family are like, ‘What? That’s come out of nowhere!’”
Whether David will really end up moving to the other side of the world in order to avoid talking about what has happened to him remains to be seen. However, Sean tells us that he’s loving being back on Corrie – and that striding on to the cobbles again was like coming home…
“I walked on to set on my first day, and it was as though
I had been in a coma for 12 years!” chuckles the star. “I just filmed a scene in the salon with Jack, and it was really nice and easy. It was very creatively warm between Jack and myself, too – I couldn’t have asked for a better way to come back to the show!”
