Dead reckoning

-

On 16 March 1988, during the funerals of three Provisional IRA volunteers in Belfast, Michael Stone attacked mourners with guns and hand grenades, killing three people and injuring many more. Several days later, two British Army corporals died after driving into the funeral procession of one of Stone’s victims, apparently by accident – though it was perceived by mourners as a repeat attack.

The incidents have become renowned as one of the darkest eras in Northern Ireland’s history, and in this film, Vanessa Engle seeks a new understanding of the events. It features relatives of the men who died at the first funeral – Kevin Brady, Thomas Mcerlean and John Murray – speaking to the media for the first time about their deaths.
